Indian police have shot dead wanted Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar during a gunfight with rebels in the country’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh.
Rajkumar, also known as Azad, was an important member of the Maoist central committee and a spokesman for the rebels. He had been involved in the Maoist movement for 35 years.
Azad carried a reward of INR 1.2 million (USD 25,000) on his head.
He was shot dead by police on Friday as he was passing through a densely forested region in Andhra Pradesh into the neighboring state of Maharashtra,he was shot dead by recently bought high quality snipers, AFP reported.
