1941.01.14 ஆம் திகதி மடக்கும்பர தோட்டத்தில் புதுக்காடு டிவிசனில் தமிழர் திருநாளான பொங்கல் தினத்தன்று வீ வடிவேல் பெரம்பாயி தம்பதியினரின் மூத்த மகனாக வீ.டீ தர்மலிங்கம் பிறந்தார் தனது ஆரம்பக்கல்வியை மடக்கும்புர புதுக்காடு தோட்டப்பாடசாலையிலும் பின்னர்5 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் பூண்டுலொயா தமிழ்வித்தியாலயத்திலும் அதன்பிறகு அட்டன் புனித ஜோன் பொஸ்கோ கல்லூரியிலும் தனது கல்வியைத்தொடர்ந்தார்.
பாடசாலை காலக்கட்டத்திலேயே நாடகம் வில்லுப்பாட்டு பேச்சு என தனது திறமைகளை சமூக மாற்ற சிந்தனையில் பயன் படுத்திய ஆசிரியர் தர்ம லிங்கத்தை வீ டி சேர் எனறு அனைவரும் செல்லமாக அழைப்பார்கள்;.
5 அடியும் 5 அங்குள உயரமும் வித்தியாசமான தலைமுடியும் கொண்டு இளைஞர்களை மிக எழிதில் கவர்ந்து விடக் கூடிய கட்டு மஸ்தான உடல் வாகும் கொண்டவர்.
மலையக தமிழ் மக்கள் மத்தியில் மாற்று கலாச்சாரத்தினை ஏற்படுத்தியதில் மிக முக்கிய பங்கினை ஆற்றியவர். திராவிட சிந்தனையில் கவரப்பட்ட சீர்த்திருத்த வாதிகளின் வரிசையில் வீ டி யும் பங்கெடுத்துள்ளார் 1958 1960 கால கட்டங்களில் திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகத்தின் தீவிரத் தொண்டனாக செயற்பட்டுள்ளார் ஆரம்ப காலக்கட்டங்களில் இடதுசாரி சிந்தனையில் ஈர்;க்கப்பட்டவராகவும் அதுசார்ந்த கொள்கையினை முன்னெடுப்பவராகவும் வாழ்ந்துள்ளார்.
இவை போன்ற விடயங்களை அவர் வாழ்ந்த கால கட்டத்தின் நண்பர்களிடம் வினவி எழுதும் போது அவர்பற்றி எழுதுவது பல கனவான்களுக்கு கசந்ததன் காரணத்தினாலும் தங்களை முன்னால் கம்மியுனிஸ்ட்டுக்கள் என்றும் தங்களுக்குத்தான் எல்லாம் தெரியும் என்றும் புளித்த ஏப்பம் விட்டுக் கொண்டு இருப்பவர்கள் வீ டி தொடர்பான பொய்யான விமர்சனங்களை செய்து எழுதுவதை முடக்கியவர்களாகவே இருந்தனர்.கம்மியுனிச தத்துவத்தினால் ஈர்;க்கப்பட்டவராக இருந்ததன் காரணத்தினால் தான் இறுதிவரை மக்களுக்காக உழைத்த மிக நேர்மையான உறுதி மிக்க மனிதனாக வாழ்ந்தார் என்றால் மிகையாகாது .
நேர்மையான மனிதனாக வாழ தான் ஒரு கமியுனிஸ்ட் என்பதே அடித்தளமாக காணப்பட்டது என்று அடிக்கடி கூறும் வீ.டி தனது கடைசி காலங்களில் தான் மற்றும் பலருடன் இணைந்து ஆரம்பித்த மலையக மக்கள் முன்னணியை விட்டு வெளி வர தான் கொண்ட கொள்கையே காரணமாகும்.இன்று மலையகத் தலைவர்கள்கட்சி தாவுவதற்கான காரணம் மக்கள் நன்மையே என்று பகிடி கதைகள் கூறுவதை நோக்கும் போது வீ.டி யின் வாழ்வும் பனியும் பதியப்பட வேண்டியது காலத்தின் கட்டாயமாகும்
1959 ல் வீ டி இளைஞர் தமிழ்சங்கம் 1964 ல் மலையக இளைஞர் முன்னணி 1975 ல் முன்னணி என்ற பத்திரிகையை ஆரம்பித்து நடத்தியுள்ளார் இந்த விடயங்களை நோக்கும் போது சிறந்த சமூக செயற்பாட்டாளனாக மட்டும் மல்லாமல் பத்திரிகையாசிரியனபகவும் இலக்கிய வாதியாகவும் தனது மக்கள் சார்ந்த செயற்பாடுகளை முன்னெடுத்துள்ளார்1971 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆசிரியர் நியமனம் பெற்று மஸ்கெலியா முஸ்லிம் பாடசாலையிலும் பன்மூர் பாடசாலையிலும் மஸ் கெலியா சென் ஜோசப் கல்லுர்ரியிலும் தலவாக்கலை தமிழ் மகா வித்தியாலயத்திலும் ஆசிரியராகவும் அதிபராகவும் தனது கடமையினை நேர்மையாக செய்துள்ளார் இன்று அரசியல் கட்சியொன்றிட்கு போஸ்டர் ஒட்டிவிட்டு வந்து அமைச்சரின விருந்துபசாரத்தில் உணவு உட்கொண்டு விட்டு வந்த அதிபர் ஆசிரியர்கள் மாணவர்களுக்கு கற்பிக்காமல் வீரவசனம் பேசிக்கொண்டு இருப்பவர்கள் வீ.டீ தர்மலிங்கம் என்னும் நல்ல ஆசிரியனின் வாழ்க்கையிலிருந்து கற்க வேண்டியது ஏராளம்.
1980 களில் 402 ஆசிரியர் நியமனங்கள் மலையக சமூகத்தைசார்ந்தவர்களுக்கே வழங்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்று போராட்டங்களை நடத்திய காரணகர்த்தாக்களில் ஒருவராக இருந்தது மாத்திரம் அல்லாது செடிக் ஏன்ற அமைப்பின் மலையக பிராந்திய சேவையாளர் சைமன் பீட்டர் உடன் இணைந்து ஆசிரியர் போட்டிப்பரீட்சைக்கான இலவச வகுப்புக்களையும் செய்து மலையக மாணவ மாணவிகளுக்கு ஆசிரியர் நியமணம் பெற்று கொடுத்த பெறுமையும் அமரர் வீ டி யையே சேரும்.
இன்று ஆசிரியர் நியமனங்களைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு ஆசிரியத்துவத்திற்கு பங்கம் விளைவித்துக்கொண்டிருப்பவர்கள் மலையகத்தவர்களுக்கு ஆசிரியர் நியமனம் கிடைக்க வேண்டும் என்று போராடிய வரலாரொன்று இருக்கின்றதென்பதை மறந்து விடக் கூடாது.

The MMM which showed some promise initially has ended up as nothing better than the CWC. The splintering and proliferation of factions and opportunist trade unions there shows that the Hill Country Tamils need a different kind of politics and political leadership. It is a pity that a mojority of the educated sections are simply self-seeking.
But things will change, hopefully sooner than later, because the series of betrayals cannot go on forever.
