நேற்று இலங்கையின் தலை நகர் கொழும்பில் நடைபெற்ற கூட்டம் ஒன்றில் கருத்துத் தெரிவித்த கோதாபய ராஜபக்ச அமரிக்கா இலங்கைக்கு போர் நடத்துவதற்கு ஆயுதங்கள் எதனையும் வழங்கவில்லை என்று குறிப்பிட்டார். இலங்கை இராணுவத்தினருக்கு அமரிக்கா பயிற்சி வழங்குகிறது. அதனையும் அவர்கள் நிறுத்திக்கொண்டால் சீனா அதனை வழங்கத் தயாராக உள்ளது என்றார். போரின் போது அமரிக்க அரசின் நேரடி உப கூறு போன்று செயற்படும் ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் நிறுவனம் மனிதப்படுகொலைகளை மௌனமாக அங்கீகரித்தும் எதிர்ப்புக்கள் உருவாகாமலும் இலங்கைக்கு ஆதரவு வழங்கியது. போரின் பின்னதாக அமரிக்காவின் பல் தேசிய நிறுவனங்கள் உல்லாசப் பயணத் துறையில் முதலிடவும் நிலங்களை ஆக்கிரமித்துக்கொள்ளவும் இலங்கை வழிவகுத்தது.
இப்போது அமரிக்க உயர்மட்டக் குழு ஒன்று மாத இறுதிக்குள் இலங்கைக்கு செல்லவிருக்கும் நிலையில் புதிய பேரத்திற்கான முன்னறிவிப்பாகவே கோத்தாபயவின் உரை கருதப்படுகிறது. கோத்தாபய அமரிக்காவின் கிரீன் கார்டை புதுப்பிப்தற்காக நியூயோர்க் சென்றுவந்தார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
